PWA has gained approval for Trafford Football Club on a project that will see significant upgrades to facilities at its Shawe View Stadium in Urmston.

The proposals, submitted to Trafford Council, will support the club’s long-term ambitions and improve facilities for players, supporters and the wider community.

The scheme includes the replacement of outdated clubhouse and changing facilities with modern, purpose-built accommodation that can be used on both matchdays and non-matchdays.

The uses are similar to how the club currently operate, though they will allow the club to provide a better space for those using the proposal.

Existing portable buildings would be demolished and replaced with high-quality facilities, including a new clubhouse with bar and kitchen facilities, accessible toilets and storage areas.

The scheme also includes upgraded changing rooms, improved spectator facilities and a dedicated first aid room.

Sustainability has been embedded throughout the design, with proposals including solar panels and the upgrade of existing floodlighting to energy-efficient LED units, helping to reduce both operational costs and environmental impact.

Funding for the new facilities has been provided by a collection of grants, commercial sponsorship and club funds, costing roughly £700k.

FWP acted as lead architects, preparing a design and access statement that was submitted alongside the planning application.

Dan Hughes, planning director at PWA, said: “Shawe View Stadium is a real community asset, particularly for grassroots and youth football, and the proposals are all about delivering modern, inclusive facilities that can support the club now and into the future.

“We’ve worked closely with Trafford FC from the outset, guiding the project through pre-application discussions and advising on how best to consult the public on the proposal, and it was encouraging to receive such positive feedback from local residents. Now fully approved, the new facilities will support the club’s continued growth, enhance matchday experiences and allow for more flexible use of the stadium.”
