Introduction

Castle House Holdings Ltd is bringing forward proposals to broaden the sport, recreation and leisure facilities available at the Laurels Golf Club. The proposals include an extension to the existing maintenance building to form a gym, creation of a padel centre and golf driving range, along with refurbishment of the existing restaurant.

A formal planning application will be submitted in Summer 2026 following this consultation.

This consultation gives you the opportunity to review the proposals and provide your feedback on the scheme.

Proposed Development

The Laurels Golf Club is located on Preston Road (A49) in Charnock Richard. The site on which the new sport and leisure facilities are proposed extends to 9.47 hectares and forms the southern part of the wider golf club site. This area is currently occupied by a nine-hole golf course and clubhouse, and includes a mix of managed green space including golf course infrastructure, woodland pockets and open pasture.

The proposals aim to enhance and widen the sports and leisure facilities available at the golf club for use by the local community. This will improve opportunities for participation in sport and leisure activities. The new facilities will help to support the long-term future of the golf club by diversifying the sports and recreational offer.

The scheme will include:

  • Extension to the existing maintenance building to create a gym
  • Construction of a new padel centre, including five indoor courts and three outdoor courts, along with shower and toilet facilities, service kiosk, bar/function space, kitchen area, seating and viewing gallery.
  • Development of a golf driving range, including 22 driving range bays, toilet facilities, kitchen, golf shop, office and staff room.
  • Associated access, parking, servicing and landscaping
  • Refurbishment of the existing restaurant

The existing access to the site off Preston Road (A49) will be retained. New internal access roads and parking, including disabled parking, will be delivered as part of the scheme. Enhanced landscaping will be introduced within the site.

FAQs – Your questions, answered

Will there be impacts during construction?

Management measures will be put in place through the submission of a Construction Management Plan (CMP) to ensure that any effects on the surrounding community during the construction phase will be minimised. For example, the CMP will restrict construction hours.

The existing golf course on the northern part of the site will be retained and will remain operational during the construction process.

An application is expected to be submitted in Summer 2026.

Complete the comment form at the bottom of the page and the project team will consider your feedback prior to the planning application submission. There will be an opportunity to make formal comments once the application has been submitted to Chorley Council via the Council’s website.
